Head Codes

FHC Project Data : Head Codes

When you start a new FHC project a standard list of head codes will be added to your FHC project, by default this is 'user.hcl' but you can change the default HCL in Preference.

Please remember that head codes are stored in the FHC project so you only need the head codes which are required for that project. We would recommend that once you have added the heads which you are going to use on the FHC project that you remove any used head code be using the

Compact command. Although this is not absolutely necessary it does simplify the head code list and your understanding of the FHC project by only having the head codes which relate the project.

A head code can be a sprinkler head, water mist nozzle or other device with a K-factor (metric value, L/min/bar0.5) and minimum pressure requirement. For other output device such as water monitors, fire hydrants and hose reels you should use the optimal items +AF & +AB which you will find in the ADD and EDIT pipe command

Head codes are contained in HCL files (Head code library) and are located in the file path C:\fhc\Library. HCL file can contain up the a 50 head codes and can be loaded in to your FHC project with the Load command

List of head code

A list of all the head codes which are available for you to use in this project, by default this is 'user.hcl' but you can change the default HCL in Preference.

Head code data

When you add or edit a head code you will need to supply the following information:

Orifice size (mm): this is a reference and will not be used in the calculation
K-factor : enter the K-factor for the sprinkler or water mist nozzle which must be a in L/min/bar0.5 (metric value)
Minimum pressure : the minimum operating pressure for the head or nozzle in bar

Reference: the reference code to identify the head or nozzle

To add a new head code press the Add button then enter the required data in each of the fields use the Tab key to move fields and return to the top field then before you press the Save button. The new head code will be added to the list of head code above and can then be selected.  If you wish to Edit an existing head code select the head code in the List of head codes and then press the Edit button.

On-line Help

Open the on-line help systems for the FHC Project data

Compact Button

This will inspect the FHC project file and remove any unused head codes, it will renumber the remaining head codes starting at 1.

Load head code Library

This command will allow you to read in an existing ‘Head Code Library File’ which has been created with the ‘Save’ Command above. The head codes loaded will be added to the end of the existing head codes.

Save heads codes Library

With the save command you can create your own head code library files to use with any other project. The command will save the head codes in the current FHC project file to an external file which by default will be stored in the ‘Library’ folder. You can name the file anything you like but if you overwrite the ‘user.hcl’ file then this will be used for any new projects which you create.
